the camera

cameraI use the Moultrie Game Spy I-40, 4.0 megapixel infrared flash digital game camera.  It’s geared mostly to hunters, and that’s the area where you’ll find a wide selection at a outdoor store.  (i bought mine at Bass Pro Shops) I opted for the infrared flash over the white flash.  The black and white night photos are fine and the flash doesn’t spook the animals.

I built a ground level wooden tripod and place the camera in various spots around my property at night. The life of the 6 D batteries is substantial, I’ve replaced the batteries once since April, and the camera is outside most nights.

The info strip embedded on the bottom of each picture records the date, moon phase, date, time, and a customizable camera identifier.

This camera has a 32mb built in memory and a slot for an sd card.  I use a 2gig sd card, opting to remove the card from the camera in the mud room instead of connecting the camera via usb directly to my computer.
